The circuit is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest font complex in the world. It is a 19-hectare historic park, is registered as the world’s largest water fountain complex in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Parque de la Reserva was inaugurated by the Mayor of Luis Castañeda of the Municipality of Lima (May 2007). The Water Tour Magic Circuit is currently the world record holder of the world’s largest fountain complex, comprised of 13 distinct sources, many of which are interactive. All fountains are lit at night, many with ever-changing color schemes. The largest source of the Reserve Park, called “Magic Fountain” (Fuente Mágica) contains a jet that forces the water to a height of more than 80 m. Other attractions are the Fountain of Surprises of the Tunnel of Surprises, a 35 m tunnel on foot; the children’s fountain (Fuente de los Ninos), an automated walk-in fountain; and a tunnel linking the two sections of the park, which contains an exhibition that highlights recent public works projects in Lima. The Fountain of Fantasy (Fantasia Fountain), site of a regularly scheduled laser and photography program, is 120 m long and contains jets synchronized with the music. The interactive aspect of the park’s fountains provides hours of fun for children and many adults, while the exhibition tunnel murals teach visitors about Lima‘s water sources and conservation efforts. The Magic Water Circuit in Parque de la Reserva was verified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest complex of fountains in the world in a public park. It consists of 13 water fountains that combine music, colored lights and laser effects for a must visit for families in Lima. Not great for kids, I’d say the Magic Water Circuit is also great for gatherings when looking for ways to entertain in addition to drinking and dancing. Some sources are interactive with names like Tunnel of Surprises, Labyrinth of Dreams and Walk-In Dome . You can try to stay dry if you are inside each one, but do not count on it. It is not uncommon for some wildcard to approach this tunnel outside and use the hand to block the jets, spreading everyone inside. The children are drenched in the Fountain of the Labyrinth of Dreams, which together with the Children’s Fountain are the two main interactive sources of the park. Some tourists have told me that the Magic Water Circuit in LIMA is more impressive than the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas. If you go around 6:00 p.m., just before sunset, you can see the fountains in both daylight and dark. At 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. is the Fantasy Fountain Show, a water and laser show with music as a grand finale at Fantasy Fountain, near the north entrance. While most people would say that visiting at night is best for colors, Lima in the summer (December through February) is so hot that a daytime visit for families can be good for letting the kids cool off. The park imposes rules on shoes, so grab some crocs or something on your feet that are good for getting wet. Parque de la Reserva, or Reservist Park, was named for the Peruvian soldiers who organized to resist Chileans during the War of the Pacific in the 1880s. They found themselves in what is now the Reserve Park. One of the sources is named after Fermin Tangüis, a Frenchman who moved to Peru in the 19th century and eventually developed a cotton seed immune to a fungus that decimated Peru’s cotton industry.
